NOWNESS
Namiai nite - sounds of low tides

Nowness Asia Namiainite (波間にて) by Akari Eda is a powerful reflection on the quieter, ebbing tides of life when things seem beyond control. Directed by Akari Eda, the film captures the journey of a solitary figure (Madoka Kariya) as she experiences a spectrum of emotions, all of which become parts of her, accessed and manifested through her dance 🌊 “Namiainite” refers to the space between waves—the interval between when waves are present and when they are absent. This concept of “ma” (間), which can mean ‘pause’, ‘gap’, or ‘interval’, embodies the unique sensibilities and aesthetics deeply ingrained in Japanese culture. It represents the connections, or even differences, between things. A space that exists between this world and the next.”
